- Ben Cullen Williams is a British Panamanian artist based in London. He holds degrees from the University of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Art. His work has been exhibited institutionally, including the CAFA Art Museum, HEK Basel, the MISK Art Institute in Riyadh, the Musée d’arts de Nantes, Somerset House, and ENNOVA Museum in Langfang, AKM Istanbul as well as on Tokyo’s Shinjuku Vision. Williams has participated in Google Arts & Culture's program for experimentation within art and technology , the Open Lab at MIT Media Lab, and residencies including the Columbia Residency with Roman Road Gallery, SARP in Sicily and Bolzano, Gazelli.io with Gazelli Art House, and the Glitch Residency at Château du Feÿ. Interdisciplinary collaboration is central to his practice, involving scientists, musicians, and explorers. He has frequently collaborated on Sir Wayne McGregor performances, with presentations at the Venice Biennale, Sadler’s Wells, the London Coliseum, NOSPR in Poland, Royal Festival Hall, and the Los Angeles Music Center, featuring the Los Angeles Philharmonic and London Philharmonic. Notably, Williams travelled to Antarctica with polar explorer Robert Swan, leading to his video work 'Cold Flux' for the Antarctica Pavilion at the London Design Biennale and a CIRCA screening on Piccadilly Lights. He also developed Self-Portrait with research scientist Jason Baldridge at Google DeepMind. A recipient of a D&AD Yellow Pencil and a RIBA Award, he lectures internationally.
